AIF Divisions

imageIn this section we will be following the Australian Infantry Divisions in the Great War, from their departure from Australia in 1914 to the training camps of Egypt, the disasters of Gallipoli and Fromelles, the battles on the Somme and around Ypres, to the spearheading of the great Allied offensive in 1918 and the breaching of the Hindenburg Line in the final weeks of the war.

1914: Formation of the AIF; sailing to Egypt; training

1915: Training; Anzac landing & Gallipoli

1916: Training in Egypt; Bois Grenier; Fromelles; the Somme 1916

1917: Somme winter; the German withdrawal; Bullecourt; Messines; the 3rd Ypres campaign 

1918: German Spring Offensive; Peaceful Penetration; 100 Days Offensive

1919: Charleroi region of Belgium
