5th Reinforcements

22nd-battalionIn this section we will learn about the 154 men of the 5th Reinforcements of the 22nd Battalion through their service records published by the National Archives of Australia. From these service records we will follow their individual journeys around Egypt, France, Belgium and England, and for one in four of them to their final resting places in France and Belgium. We will also explore how representative this group of 154 men are for an infantry unit in the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War by comparing with published literature their demographics, fatality and casualty rates, gallantry awards and discipline.
